I wanted to put my own spin on the V8Girl. I dived into the world of pin-up art, vintage cartoons, and rockabilly styles to find inspiration. I got into the details, studying fishnet stockings, classic hairstyles, and the iconic look of 50s pin-up girls. Then, in January 2024, I had a hand injury that put my car work on hold, so I threw myself into sculpting her.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI poured about 300 hours into getting her appearance just right. Every little detail, from her smile to her fishnet stockings, was painstakingly crafted. Even flipping the \"8\" in V8 became part of the creative process for better visual appeal and structure. After a lot of adjustments, I made a 3D printed master prototype, fixed some minor issues, and sent it to the foundry for casting. V8Girl turned out to be more than just a hood ornament; she's a labor of love that shows my dedication to craftsmanship and creativity. It was a quarter-inch wide but six inches tall, with a mohawk helmet and swinging sword. Intrigued, I challenged myself to create something similar. I initially tried 3D sculpting but couldn't replicate the original style, so I asked a friend for advice. He suggested going the traditional route with clay. Inspired by this, I decided to craft a hood ornament animal in a sleek style—thin but full of depth and shadow.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003eI sketched a rat leaning forward, wielding a wrench overhead to smash a car. After several iterations, I finalized the illustration, enlarged it, and used it as a template to layer clay and carve out depths. The design needed to be symmetrical, so I carefully merged features like elbows and hands. Once satisfied with the clay model, I had it digitized and refined through digital sculpting. After adding finishing touches and 3D printing a master model, I sanded and molded it for the final cast. Once I got the vibe of him in my head, I dove right in, roughing out the shapes of his oversized hat, broad shoulders, and those short, stubby legs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fun really began with his face—mostly hidden beneath that iconic hat, with just a sly little line of a mouth, a cigarette dangling lazily from his lips. After shaping his rough form, I started fine-tuning the details. Buttons? Check. Collar? Of course! Necktie, wrench in his pocket, and even his thumb poking out, all sculpted with care. He was coming to life, piece by piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut Rocky wasn’t just going to be any ordinary ornament. Oh no—this one had to be special. I wanted him to pull double duty, so I designed a clever little base that could work both as a hood ornament and a shifter knob. My solution? A round base with a washer-like bottom that could easily screw onto a hood or shifter rod. When I showed it off to some Roadman members, they were thrilled! One even suggested turning the base into a globe, so of course, I made it look like the world. Now Rocky the Roadmen stands on top of the world.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd the final touch?
